UN MONDE À PART

The inaugural exhibition at the Musée Würth France Erstein invites us to consider art as another world. By liberating us from our temporality, art creates a universe free from the rules and demands of reality, yet maintains a complex relationship with that reality, in which reciprocal influences abound. Escaping from rational utilitarianism, it can assert its intrinsic values and is governed by its own laws. The exhibition is intended as an homage to Reinhold Würth’s personal dedication and the fascinating collection that he began more than 40 years ago. This remarkable collection and its museums can in turn be seen as other worlds, in the context of their intense and fascinating mutual relationship with the commercial empire.

Through the main themes of the collection, visitors are taken on a journey that allows them to participate in the artist’s creative and intellectual adventure. The intention is to avoid a linear, historical presentation and instead, the exhibition offers us several themes: moving from the close relationship between art, myth and history to the discovery of expressive representation, our journey then takes us on to explore the worlds of the surreal and the abstract. The universality of these thematic areas is consistently underscored by the dialogue between modern and contemporary works.
