East and west winds
Any attempt to arrange the world and consequently the world of images according to our observations, knowledge and desires is necessarily an absurd and temporary undertaking.
What is more, such endeavours will inevitably come to resemble a hunt for clues, offering a range of different possibilities in order to remain accessible to all those taking an interest in aesthetic issues, and must remain approximations for the artists, as the “object” is the quest itself. Paintings are “magical”; they exert a force of attraction. This is why they exist: they are created for others to look at them. When paintings are arranged together, there is always an element of randomness. The resulting newness, otherness, and in the best cases, the modification of these constellations is what changes or expands our perception. The arrangement of heterogeneous parts is a game - the true reality of the physical artwork.
