Gestural art versus construction
and the autonomous painting
Not without a certain presumption, Klaus Jürgen-Fischer wrote that he wanted to preserve history in modern painting; in his eyes, mannerism, “rational feeling” and heraldic emblems were in no sense mutually exclusive. The works of Lothar Quinte, on the other hand, are typified by a radical reduction of means, a refusal of reproduction, narrative and psychic expression. “It is an autonomous, sensual form of painting that appeals to the viewer’s senses, on which the exterior world has no impact, which takes no account of transitory “ideas” and which does not easily give in to the first effect obtained. Through these contradictions between myself and reality, however, I do not want to reconcile or translate certain things within my consciousness. It is much simpler than that: I want the image to become an independent object, an independent reality (…) I want to give life to my paintings by playing with the sensuality of colour”.
